The Vanguard of the Vanguard
The forest was silent as the soldiers moved between the dense trees. The only sound that penetrated the dense brush and foliage was the calling of birds and even they fell silent as the six men passed beneath their trees. They were the vanguard of the vanguard, scouts for a far greater force stepping into this strange land of endless forest. They hailed from a fairer clime to the south, well away from the shadows they now walked beneath.
Each sound and scent was new to them and more than once the group paused to ensure that they were still within sight of each other. Then they would start forwards once more as they walked side by side in pa

SW: On Your Feet Trooper
CT-22/11-7007's head rang violently as the shock of the explosion that had flattened himself and his brothers wore off. Looking up he tried to get a clear view of the terrain around him but couldn't quite get his visor to work properly as he shook his head in an attempt to clear his vision. He wasn't sure what had knocked him flat but the same blast had leveled the rest of his squad as he looked around at the other white and gray shells of his fellow troopers. He had trained for this, been conditioned for this, but that didn't make the reality of what he was seeing any easier to process.
He felt an overwhelming sense of doom coming over him
The sun began to rise upon the horizon, casting shadows across the rocky edifices rising out of the ground along the ridgeline. The rays of light fell upon the valley and its rolling grasses as the lone warrior stood beneath the standing stones and their multifaceted surfaces. Simmaron sighed heavily as the morning mists gathered and swirled amidst the grasses as her longsword rested point down in the ground before her. How long had she stood this watch now? She'd lost track, when she'd first accepted this mantle she'd not fathomed the full extent of what she was pledging to.
She did not age, she did not sleep, she did not hunger nor thirst

In the Land of the Dead
The desert heat beat down upon Esme's back as she trudged through the sand amidst her kinfolk. They had been moving through the endless sands for days now and just this morning had used the last of their water. It had been over a week since they had been wrecked upon the shores of these sun scorched coasts and there hadn't been any sign of life beyond the random appearance of birds overhead. Wherever it was that she and her fellow colonists had been wrecked it was a place unfit for human life she had decided within herself.
Already some of the children were growing too weak to continue and she worried that soon they'd need to be carried, dr
“But what if I don't want to?” Merida protested as she walked through the dappled sunlight filtering through the foliage.
“You don't exactly have a choice.” Caron said as he padded alongside her. “It's in your blood whether you want it or not.”
The auburn haired young woman gave an exasperated sigh as she rounded on the elk-sized gray fox haughtily.
“I didn't ask for this! I didn't ask for any of this!”
“I am aware.” Caron said patiently as he sat back on his haunches and gazed into her eyes. “That doesn't change the fact that it must be you.”
“It isn't fair.&
Kesarah and Ka, Winter Warmth
Snow was falling on Coronet. It didn't happen often, but for a few weeks out of the year temperatures dipped and the clouds released a flurry of white flakes that covered the city in a film of snow. Kesarah hated it. It was too cold for her tastes and if she had her way she'd just remain inside bundled up and out of the snow. Those were her thoughts as the aircab she'd taken landed at her apartment complex and she stepped out into the cold. Gathering her things, she steeled herself against the chill and prepared to walk through the snow to her door.
That was when her mind filled with a familiar and welcome war

Cries of the Fallen City
A shrill cry split the noon-day air as Tamir paused, glancing out over the rubble strewn landscape. He listened for a moment before he heard it again, a long high pitched wail that sent a shiver through his body. The sun was still up and it wasn't overcast, why was he hearing their calls now? Swallowing as he tried to suppress his fear he turned to his dog.
“Urd, home.”
The resting dog—a large four-legged beast of a robot—rose to its feet as its motors whirred to life and it began making its way across the broken landscape. In the distance, Tamir again heard the long shrill call and hoped that he hadn't been seen. T
